The UK’s leading fire and fireplace manufacturer, Be Modern showed its support for National ‘FSC Friday’ in an event with local nursery school children, as part of the annual celebration of responsible forestry by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Be Modern visited Houghton Community Nursery School in Houghton Le Spring to help increase awareness of responsible forest management. The Be Modern team alongside children from the nursery participated in a tree planting event that took place to represent the outstanding work of FSC. With coats and ‘welly’ boots at the ready, the children took turns to dig holes and plant young trees around the school grounds. A commemorative FSC wooden plaque was presented to Head Teacher Jane Bulmer.
Mrs Bulmer commented, “It was a great learning experience for the children, they enjoyed rolling their sleeves up and helping to plant the trees. The school has created a small educational zone for the children to carry on learning about trees and their environment. We were delighted when Be Modern invited us to take part in FSC Friday.”
Mark Walton, Be Modern’s National Contracts Manager added, “We are keen to show our support for FSC Friday and had a brilliant day working with the children.
Helping to sustain the environment is a fundamental part of Be Modern’s environmental objectives, and using FSC accredited timber for our products means we are able to play a vital role in doing so.”
